Gemini Credit Card; Reviewed & Scored | The Block Note
Crypto Card Review · Updated August 2026

Gemini Credit Card:
a real credit card wearing crypto marketing.

We tore apart Gemini's Mastercard across seven weighted categories; from what a 34.49% APR does to a 1% cashback rate to what "custodial" means when your rewards land at the same exchange that ran Gemini Earn; and landed on a score the marketing page won't show you.

Our take, up front: the Gemini Credit Card is the odd one out in this category; it's not a prepaid or debit card at all, but a real Mastercard with a credit line, an APR, and a credit check, wrapped around a genuinely well-built crypto rewards layer. That structure cuts both ways: no country patchwork, no staking a token you don't want, and the best app-store sentiment we've seen in this series, but also a real interest-rate risk that none of the debit-style cards we've reviewed carry, and rewards that land in the same exchange account behind 2022's Gemini Earn collapse. We weighted all of it below.

This isn't a spend-your-own-crypto card, so the custody question is narrower: your crypto rewards land in a Gemini exchange account. Gemini Trust Company operates under a NYDFS Trust Charter, one of the strongest state-level crypto regulatory frameworks in the US, with bank-style capital and examination requirements. It's also the same company behind Gemini Earn, the 2022 lending product that froze roughly $900 million to $1.1 billion in customer assets when Genesis Global Capital collapsed.

Why it's weighted heaviest: this is the rare case where the same institution's history cuts both ways. Earn's collapse was real and painful for 232,000 users; but Gemini's resolution of it, full in-kind recovery worth more than the original claims, is the best outcome any major crypto platform has delivered after a blowup like this.

Pros

  • NYDFS Trust Charter is one of the strongest state-level crypto regulatory frameworks in the US
  • Earn collapse was fully resolved by 2024; $1.1 billion repaid in-kind, over 100% of November 2022 value
  • SEC's related civil case against Gemini was dismissed with prejudice in January 2026

Cons

  • Card rewards still sit in a custodial exchange account, not a wallet you control
  • Gemini carries an F rating with open alerts on its BBB profile, per one source we reviewed
  • An unrelated NY Attorney General lawsuit over prediction markets was filed against Gemini in April 2026

Rewards are tiered by category: 4% on gas, EV charging, transit, taxis, and rideshare (capped at $300 in monthly spend, then 1%), 3% on dining, 2% on groceries, and 1% on everything else, with no overall spending cap. Rewards land instantly at the moment of purchase, not at the end of a statement cycle, and you choose from more than 50 cryptocurrencies to receive them in. The $200 welcome bonus was discontinued in January 2026.

Why it doesn't score higher: the rates are genuinely competitive against flat-rate cash-back cards, but the welcome bonus is gone, the highest rate is capped low ($300/mo spend basis), and none of this cashback matters if you're paying interest on a carried balance; which category 3 covers.

Pros

  • Instant reward crediting at the point of sale, not end-of-cycle
  • Choice of 50+ cryptocurrencies for reward payout, unmatched flexibility in this category
  • No overall monthly or annual cap on total rewards earned

Cons

  • The $200 welcome bonus was discontinued as of January 2026; new applicants get no sign-up incentive
  • The 4% top rate applies to only $300/month in spend before dropping to 1%
  • 1% floor rate on the majority of everyday spending outside the bonus categories

$0 annual fee and 0% foreign transaction fees are genuinely best-in-class. But this is a real revolving-credit card, not a prepaid one, and the variable APR runs 18.49% to 34.49% depending on creditworthiness. Carry a $1,000 balance for one month at the top rate and the roughly $28.74 in interest wipes out around $2,874 worth of 1%-tier rewards; a risk none of the debit-style cards in this category carry at all.

Why the score is capped here: a card can have perfect fees on paper and still be structurally dangerous if the product category itself (revolving credit) makes it easy to lose far more to interest than you'll ever earn in crypto. That risk doesn't exist for a prepaid card, and it's real here.

Pros

  • $0 annual fee and 0% foreign transaction fees, genuinely competitive
  • Prequalification uses a soft credit pull with no impact to your credit score
  • No fee tied to redeeming rewards in crypto itself

Cons

  • Variable APR of 18.49% to 34.49% is a real, structural risk unique to this card's credit-line format
  • Cash advance APR of 29.49% plus a $10 or 3% fee, whichever is greater
  • Only makes financial sense if you pay the statement balance in full every month

This card is US-only, with no country patchwork or state-by-state exclusions to track; a real simplicity advantage over prepaid crypto cards. The gate here is different in kind: a real credit application, with a recommended credit score of 670 or higher (good to excellent). There's no staking or token requirement to qualify, but there is a hard credit check upon approval, and applicants with thin or damaged credit will be declined outright.

Pros

  • No country or state patchwork to track; one simple US-only eligibility rule
  • No staking requirement or crypto holdings needed to qualify or use the card
  • Soft-pull prequalification lets you check eligibility before a hard credit inquiry

Cons

  • US-only; no international availability at all
  • Recommended 670+ credit score excludes applicants with thin or damaged credit entirely
  • A real credit check and credit line, not something you can access with just funds or a token stake

The Standard edition lets you pick your reward asset from 50+ coins; the Solana Edition pays rewards exclusively in SOL and auto-stakes them at up to 6.12% APR, a genuinely nice touch. Vault Rewards can push select merchant categories up to 10% back when activated in-app, though partner availability varies significantly by location, so the headline number often isn't achievable where you actually shop.

Why it scores lowest of the seven: this is the thinnest ecosystem integration we've reviewed in this category. There's no equivalent to a restaking vault or a deep exchange-wide rewards system here; it's fundamentally a rewards-selection feature bolted onto a standard credit card, not a protocol you're plugged into.

Pros

  • Choice of 50+ reward assets is genuinely broad flexibility
  • Solana Edition auto-stakes rewards at up to 6.12% APR with no extra steps
  • Vault Rewards can reach up to 10% at select activated partner merchants

Cons

  • No deep protocol or exchange-wide ecosystem integration beyond reward-asset selection
  • Vault Rewards partner availability varies significantly by location; the 10% figure is often unreachable
  • Auto-staking is exclusive to the Solana Edition, not available for other reward assets

This is the strongest app experience we've reviewed in this category, and the numbers back it up: a 4.76-star App Store rating across more than 107,000 reviews. Prequalification runs on a soft credit pull with zero score impact, rewards credit instantly and visibly at the point of sale, and the physical card is designed with the card number removed from its face as a deliberate security measure.

Why it scores highest: a large, verifiable review volume at a genuinely high rating is hard to fake or dismiss, and it stands in real contrast to the mixed-to-poor support sentiment we found elsewhere for this company.

Pros

  • 4.76/5 App Store rating across 107,000+ reviews; the best app sentiment in this series so far
  • Soft-pull prequalification means checking eligibility never dings your credit score
  • Security-conscious physical design; no printed card number on the card face

Cons

  • A strong app doesn't offset the underlying interest-rate risk if you carry a balance
  • App-store sentiment reflects day-to-day use, not what happens during a support escalation

This is genuinely a mixed picture, and we mean that literally: Trustpilot sentiment for Gemini splits between users praising the platform's security and ease of use, and others reporting frustrating customer support or account verification delays. Separately, Gemini's handling of the Earn collapse; full in-kind recovery, the largest customer repayment in crypto exchange history; is a real point in its favor that most platforms with a comparable blowup never earned.

Pros

  • Earn recovery ($1.1 billion repaid in-kind, over 100% of frozen value) is the best-documented resolution of its kind in the industry
  • Many users specifically cite platform security and ease of use as strengths
  • Long operating history since 2014 under continuous NYDFS oversight

Cons

  • Recurring complaints about support responsiveness and account verification delays
  • Reported F rating with open alerts on Gemini's BBB profile
  • An active, unrelated NY Attorney General lawsuit over prediction markets, filed April 2026, keeps the platform under ongoing legal scrutiny

The best app in this category; wrapped around real interest-rate risk.

The Gemini Credit Card earns its marks in places the debit-style cards in this category can't compete: no country patchwork, a 4.76-star app-store rating, instant reward crediting, and a genuinely strong regulatory framework behind the exchange holding your rewards. It loses ground on the one structural risk unique to being a real credit card: a variable APR up to 34.49% that can erase years of 1% rewards in a single carried balance. This is a strong pick for someone with good credit who pays in full every month; it's a real financial risk for anyone who might not.

The scorecard above is deliberately general. Whether the Gemini Credit Card is right for you depends heavily on which of these you already are.

Best fit

The good-credit spender who pays in full

You have a 670+ credit score and never carry a balance. On that basis, this is close to free money: 1% to 4% back in crypto with zero downside, since the APR risk that undermines the math for everyone else simply doesn't apply to you.

Good fit

The passive crypto accumulator

You want gradual crypto exposure without actively trading or staking. Instant rewards on everyday spend, paid into an account you likely already have, is a low-effort way to build a position over time.

Workable fit

The Solana holder who wants passive yield

The Solana Edition auto-stakes your rewards at up to 6.12% APR with zero extra steps. If you're already SOL-aligned, this edition turns ordinary spending into a small, automatic yield stream.

Poor fit

Anyone who might carry a balance, or lives outside the US

If there's any real chance you'll carry debt month to month, the 18.49% to 34.49% APR will outweigh the rewards fast. And if you're outside the US, this card isn't available to you at all; no exceptions.

The scorecard covers the headline judgment calls. These three tables cover the specifics we didn't want to bury in prose; the four card editions, the full fee and APR schedule, and how the Gemini Credit Card stacks up against the debit-style crypto cards we've reviewed alongside it.

Card editions, side by side

EditionReward assetStandout feature

XRP EditionXRP onlyDesign variant; same 4%/3%/2%/1% reward structure
Bitcoin Credit CardBitcoin onlyDesign variant; same 4%/3%/2%/1% reward structure

All four editions share identical fees, APR, and reward rates; only the reward asset and physical design differ. The Solana Edition's auto-staking is the only functional difference beyond cosmetics.

Penalty APRUp to 33.49%-36% variable, can apply after late or returned payments
Late payment feeUp to $8
Returned payment feeUp to $35

The break-even math is simple in one direction and brutal in the other: at $0 annual fee, every dollar of rewards is profit if you pay in full. But one source calculated that carrying a $1,000 balance for a single month at the top APR costs roughly $28.74 in interest, enough to wipe out around $2,874 worth of 1%-tier rewards. This card only works as advertised for people who never carry a balance.

How it compares to the other cards we've reviewed

ether.fi CashDebit against collateralUp to 3%, paid in wETHNon-custodial; Safe vault, user-held keys~20 US states, UK, EEA, HK, UAE

Gemini is the only card here with no crypto or collateral required to use it at all; you're spending WebBank's credit line, not your own funds. That's a real advantage if you don't want to hold crypto to earn crypto, and a real risk if you might carry a balance; a trade-off neither of the other two cards has, since neither offers revolving credit.

We don't just want to hand you our number; we want to show you how it sits next to what other review desks, app-store users, and comparison sites have published. Where we could find a real cited figure, we used it; everything else is a clearly-flagged editorial estimate based on that outlet's published sentiment.

The Block Note (us)N/A / 100
Industry averageN/A / 100

Our score lands meaningfully below the aggregated industry average; most mainstream card-comparison sites score this primarily as a cash-back credit card and weight the $0 annual fee and app quality heavily, while giving the APR range a standard warning footnote rather than a real deduction. We weight the interest-rate risk and the custodial destination of your rewards more heavily than that.

It's a real, traditional revolving credit card issued by WebBank, with a credit line, a variable APR, and a standard credit check. This is the opposite structure from prepaid cards like Crypto.com Visa or debit-style cards like ether.fi Cash, which spend your own preloaded funds or crypto instead of a credit line.

Gemini doesn't publish a hard minimum, but independent research consistently points to a recommended score of 670 or higher (good to excellent credit). You can check your prequalification odds with a soft credit pull, which doesn't affect your score, before applying with a hard inquiry.

Gemini Earn was a separate lending product that froze roughly $900 million to $1.1 billion in customer assets in November 2022 when its borrower, Genesis Global Capital, collapsed. It's unrelated to the credit card's day-to-day operation, but relevant context: by May 2024, Gemini had repaid $1.1 billion in-kind, and your card rewards land in the same company's custody today.

No. The previous $200-in-bitcoin welcome offer, which required hitting a $3,000 spend threshold, was discontinued as of January 2026. Applicants today are applying for the ongoing category rewards structure only, with no sign-up incentive.

More than you'd think relative to the rewards. One published calculation found that carrying a $1,000 balance for a single month at the maximum 34.49% APR costs about $28.74 in interest; enough to wipe out roughly $2,874 worth of purchases earned at the 1% base reward rate. This card is only a good deal if you pay your statement in full every month.

No, and this is a genuine structural advantage over every other card in this category. You're spending against a credit line, not preloaded crypto or a token stake, so you can start earning crypto rewards from your first purchase with zero crypto holdings going in.

All rewards are paid exclusively in SOL and automatically staked at up to 6.12% APR with no extra steps required. It's the same reward rates and fees as the Standard card; the only functional difference is the automatic staking layer on top.

The card itself runs on the Mastercard network with 0% foreign transaction fees, so it works for purchases made while traveling abroad. But the card program itself is US-only for applicants; you need to be a US resident to open an account and be approved in the first place.
