Lu Mai

Lu Mai (also styled Mai Lu) is a tech and crypto executive serving as Chief Executive Officer of CoinMarketCap, the world’s leading cryptocurrency market data and analytics platform, where he oversees the company’s strategic direction, product vision, and global growth. He took on the CEO role in October 2021, guiding CoinMarketCap’s evolution as the industry’s go-to source for transparent and comprehensive crypto pricing, market cap, volume, and project data.

In addition to his role at CoinMarketCap, Lu also serves as Vice President, Asia-Pacific at Binance, the global crypto exchange that acquired CoinMarketCap in 2020, where he focuses on expanding Binance’s presence and services across the Asia-Pacific region.

Lu’s background bridges engineering, management, and entrepreneurship. He began his career at IBM, where he spent several years in technical and leadership roles within Asia-Pacific technical services and server system engineering. Later, he founded and led tech startups; including 好物App and Signitors Inc; gaining experience in product development, user growth, and early-stage company scaling before transitioning into the crypto industry.

He holds a Master of Science in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Chengdu University of Technology, reflecting both strong technical foundations and strategic business training that inform his leadership at one of crypto’s most influential data platforms.

Under Lu’s stewardship, CoinMarketCap has expanded beyond static pricing into tools, indices, research, and new initiatives that support informed participation in the global digital assets ecosystem, helping traders, analysts, and institutions navigate a rapidly evolving market.
