Brian Armstrong (born January 25, 1983, in San Jose, California) is the co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges. He is a pioneering figure in the blockchain and digital asset industry, known for making cryptocurrency accessible to both retail and institutional investors.
Armstrong studied Computer Science and Economics at Rice University, graduating in 2005. He began his career as a software engineer at IBM, Deloitte, and Airbnb, gaining experience in technology and scalable platforms before turning his attention to cryptocurrency.
In 2011, Armstrong founded Coinbase with the vision of building a secure and user-friendly platform for buying, selling, and storing Bitcoin. Under his leadership, Coinbase expanded to support dozens of cryptocurrencies, introduced features for institutional investors, and prioritized regulatory compliance and security; setting a standard for the emerging crypto industry.
