Bobby Ong

Bobby Ong is a Malaysian crypto entrepreneur and the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CoinGecko, one of the world’s most widely used cryptocurrency data and analytics platforms. CoinGecko provides real-time pricing, liquidity, developer activity, exchange trust scores, and broader metrics for thousands of digital assets, helping traders, institutions, and researchers understand the crypto market’s fundamentals.

Ong studied Economics at University College London, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 2012. His early professional experience combined digital marketing and tech roles, and he first encountered Bitcoin around 2013; a period that inspired him to explore blockchain technology and its potential to reshape finance.

In April 2014, Ong co-founded CoinGecko with TM Lee to address the fragmented and opaque nature of crypto market data. From its beginnings tracking a handful of assets, the platform grew into one of the largest independent crypto data aggregators, now covering thousands of cryptocurrencies across hundreds of exchanges and supporting APIs used by exchanges, wallets, and analytic tools worldwide.

Under Ong’s leadership, CoinGecko has emphasized data transparency, editorial research, and unbiased market insights, contributing to educational reports, newsletters, and industry benchmarks that support informed decision-making in digital assets. In August 2025, Ong was promoted from COO to CEO as part of a leadership strategy to expand CoinGecko’s global infrastructure and institutional positioning.

Beyond running CoinGecko, Ong contributes to academic and industry thought leadership as a research fellow at the Singapore University of Social Sciences and as an author of chapters in foundational books on digital currencies and blockchain finance.
