Mintscan: "Stake with us," says the explorer, right on the same page that ranks the validators you'd be staking with instead.
We're continuing our Crypto Block Explorers series with Mintscan, the default explorer for the Cosmos interchain ecosystem. Real, disclosed genuine strengths: long-standing, exchange-adopted infrastructure listed as the official Cosmos explorer at Binance, CoinGecko, and CoinMarketCap, and genuinely distinctive IBC cross-chain transfer tracking. What we don't think should be set aside: Mintscan is built by Cosmostation, a company that is simultaneously a leading validator on 35-plus networks and a non-custodial wallet provider, a real, disclosed three-in-one structure that's been part of the product since its earliest days, not a recent development. We weighted all of it below.
Our take, up front: Mintscan is the primary block explorer for the Cosmos interchain ecosystem, built and operated by Cosmostation, described directly in its own materials as "a web3 infrastructure team contributing to more than 50 protocols since 2018." Real, disclosed genuinely long-standing, credible adoption: since the Cosmos Hub Mainnet launch, Mintscan "has been listed as the official block explorer for Cosmos (ATOM) at Binance, CoinGecko, Huobi Global, CoinMarketCap, Coinone Exchange, and most other services." Real, disclosed structural finding we found directly relevant to this category, present since the product's earliest days rather than a recent development: Cosmostation's own stated product suite is "Mintscan block explorer, Cosmostation non-custodial crypto wallet, and node validator service," and the company describes itself directly as "an ecosystem leading, highly-secure validator node operator trusted on 35+ networks." A Cosmostation post introducing the Mintscan explorer in 2019 states in the very same breath, "As a top-tier Cosmos validator, we have been doing our part," and separately invites readers to "Stake with us to invest in the future of Tendermint & Cosmos." We think this is worth naming plainly: the same company that operates the "neutral" explorer is also actively competing for staking delegations on many of the same chains Mintscan displays validator rankings and governance data for. Real, disclosed genuinely broad, distinctive coverage: at least 19 named chains across the Cosmos interchain ecosystem, support for both WASM and EVM smart-contract environments, and IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) cross-chain transfer tracking, a capability specific to this ecosystem's architecture. Real, disclosed API history: a private API served major clients including CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap for years before Mintscan's public API launched in Q3 2023. Real, disclosed accessibility limitation: Mintscan's disclosed language support is English only. We weighted all of it below.
Real, disclosed genuinely long operating history: Cosmostation has contributed to more than 50 protocols since 2018, and Mintscan has served as the official, exchange-listed Cosmos explorer since the network's earliest days, adopted by Binance, CoinGecko, Huobi, CoinMarketCap, and others. Real, disclosed major structural finding present since the product's earliest days: Cosmostation's own stated product suite combines Mintscan, a non-custodial wallet, and a validator node service trusted on 35-plus networks, with the company's own materials inviting readers to "Stake with us" in the same breath as introducing the explorer.
Pros
- Adoption by major exchanges and data platforms as the official Cosmos explorer is a real, disclosed, independently-verifiable trust signal
Cons
- Cosmostation's own materials directly solicit staking delegations on the same explorer that displays validator rankings and governance data
- This structural overlap has been consistent since the product's earliest disclosed materials, not a later addition
Real, disclosed genuinely broad coverage across the Cosmos interchain ecosystem, spanning at least 19 named chains including Cosmos Hub, Osmosis, Injective, Kava, and BNB Smart Chain, plus disclosed support for both WASM and EVM smart-contract environments.
Pros
- Coverage spans both native Cosmos SDK chains and EVM-compatible chains within the interchain ecosystem
Cons
- Coverage remains concentrated within the Cosmos interchain ecosystem specifically, unlike genuinely universal multi-chain competitors
We found limited disclosed detail on Mintscan's specific visitor-tracking practices in our research. Basic exploration appears to require no account for casual lookups, consistent with typical explorer norms.
Pros
- No account or login appears required for basic address, transaction, or validator lookups
Cons
- A detailed, specific privacy policy comparable to some competitors' was not easy to independently verify
Real, disclosed genuinely distinctive IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) cross-chain transfer tracking, a capability specific to the Cosmos interchain architecture, plus a mature API surface with years of prior private use by major clients before its public launch.
Pros
- IBC transfer tracking is a genuinely distinctive, disclosed capability tailored to this specific ecosystem's architecture
- Years of prior private-API use by CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap suggest real, disclosed data reliability
Cons
- Decoding depth for WASM and EVM contracts specifically wasn't independently benchmarked against dedicated single-chain competitors
Real, disclosed genuinely accessible, no-account-required core exploration, though disclosed language support is limited to English, a real, disclosed accessibility gap relative to more broadly-localized competitors in this series.
Pros
- A single, unified interface across the entire Cosmos interchain ecosystem reduces the need to switch tools
Cons
- English-only support is narrower than several other explorers reviewed in this series
Real, disclosed transition from a private, enterprise-only API historically serving major clients to a public API launched in Q3 2023, though we found limited specific, published consumer-facing pricing tiers for the current public API in our research.
Pros
- The core explorer and public API access remain free for basic use
Cons
- Specific, current published pricing tiers for heavier API use were not easy to independently verify
Real, disclosed genuinely broad community-contribution history behind the Mintscan 2.0 rebuild, via a "#BuildMintscanTogether" campaign involving foundations, builders, and validators, plus disclosed integration with Cosmostation's own wallet products.
Pros
- A disclosed, named community-contribution campaign for the 2.0 rebuild reflects genuine ecosystem engagement
Cons
- Extras remain closely tied to Cosmostation's own commercial wallet and validator products
Genuinely useful for Cosmos data; verify validator rankings against an independent source too.
Given the genuinely long-standing, exchange-adopted infrastructure we found, we'd use Mintscan with real confidence for general transaction and address lookups across the Cosmos interchain ecosystem, while cross-checking validator rankings and staking recommendations against an independent source given Cosmostation's own disclosed validator business.
We didn't have to dig for this one. It's right there in Cosmostation's own 2019 announcement post.
We want to be direct about something: this isn't a conflict we uncovered through careful cross-referencing of funding databases. It's stated plainly, in Cosmostation's own words, in the same post that introduced Mintscan to the world: "As a top-tier Cosmos validator, we have been doing our part," followed by an invitation to "Stake with us." The explorer, the wallet, and the validator business have been one company, disclosed together, since day one. We don't think that makes Mintscan untrustworthy, and we found genuine, credible evidence of its data quality: major exchanges and data platforms have relied on it as the official Cosmos explorer for years. But an explorer that shows validator rankings and governance data, built by a company actively competing for the stake those rankings influence, is a real, disclosed structural tension worth naming as directly as Cosmostation itself named it. We think a reader deciding which validator to delegate to deserves to know exactly whose recommendation they might be looking at.
The scorecard above is deliberately general. Whether Mintscan is right for you depends heavily on which of these you already are.
The developer or user who needs reliable transaction and IBC transfer data across the Cosmos interchain ecosystem
This is exactly where Mintscan's real, disclosed long-standing, exchange-adopted infrastructure delivers genuine, distinctive value.
The delegator who cross-checks Mintscan's validator rankings against an independent source before choosing where to stake
Given the real, disclosed Cosmostation validator business, this specific habit genuinely matters here.
The developer accessing Mintscan's public API, now available after years as a private, enterprise-only service
This is a real, disclosed, genuinely more accessible option worth evaluating on its own separate merits.
Anyone treating Mintscan's validator rankings or staking suggestions as fully arms-length from Cosmostation's own validator business
A real, disclosed, longstanding three-in-one business structure makes this a poor fit for that specific assumption.
The scorecard covers the headline judgment calls. These four tables cover the specifics we didn't want to bury in prose; Cosmostation's three-in-one product suite laid out plainly, the 2019 launch quotes side by side, the disclosed chain list in full, and how all thirteen Block Explorers reviewed so far compare.
Cosmostation's three-in-one product suite, laid out plainly
| Product | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mintscan | The block explorer reviewed here |
| Cosmostation Wallet | A non-custodial crypto wallet for the Cosmos interchain, Ethereum, and EVM ecosystems |
| Validator node service | A validator operation "trusted on 35+ networks" |
We're separating these into their own table because seeing all three side by side makes the scale of the overlap clearer than describing it in a single sentence.
The 2019 launch quotes, side by side
|---|---|
| "Cosmos #ATOM block explorer for exchanges & everyday users" | Introducing Mintscan itself |
| "As a top-tier Cosmos validator, we have been doing our part" | Same post, describing Cosmostation's validator business |
| "Stake with us to invest in the future of Tendermint & Cosmos" | Same post, a direct staking invitation |
We're quoting all three from the same original 2019 post because the juxtaposition, in the company's own unedited words, makes the structural point more clearly than we could by paraphrasing it.
The disclosed chain list, in full
| Chains | |
|---|---|
| Named integrations | AssetMantle, Axelar, Band Protocol, BNB Smart Chain, BitCanna, BitSong, Cosmos, Cosmostation, Cronos POS Chain, Desmos, Injective, Kava, Osmosis, Persistence, Sei, Sentinel dVPN, Sifchain, Stargaze, Umee |
We're listing the full set because "broad Cosmos coverage" is easier to evaluate with the actual chain names in front of you.

Mintscan's score reflects genuine credit for long-standing, exchange-adopted infrastructure and distinctive IBC-tracking capability, weighed against a real, disclosed, longstanding structural overlap between the explorer and its operator's own validator business.
We don't just want to hand you our number; we want to show you how it sits next to what other sources have published. We're flagging directly that the validator-plus-explorer combination is a fairly normalized pattern within the Cosmos ecosystem specifically, so general community sentiment tends to treat it as unremarkable in a way our methodology, applied consistently across every explorer in this series, does not.
Our score lands modestly below the aggregated industry average; Cosmos community sentiment credits Mintscan's reliability and long track record heavily, while giving considerably less direct weight to the validator/explorer structural overlap than our methodology does.

Mintscan is built and operated by Cosmostation, a web3 infrastructure team active since 2018. Cosmostation's own product suite also includes a non-custodial wallet and a validator node service.
Cosmostation, Mintscan's operator, is also "an ecosystem leading, highly-secure validator node operator trusted on 35+ networks," actively competing for staking delegations on many of the same chains Mintscan displays validator rankings for. This has been disclosed since the product's earliest materials.
At least 19 named chains across the Cosmos interchain ecosystem, including Cosmos Hub, Osmosis, Injective, Kava, and BNB Smart Chain, with support for both WASM and EVM smart-contract environments.
Inter-Blockchain Communication tracking, a genuinely distinctive capability that lets Mintscan follow assets as they move between different chains within the Cosmos interchain ecosystem.
Yes. Since the Cosmos Hub Mainnet launch, it has been listed as the official block explorer for Cosmos (ATOM) at Binance, CoinGecko, Huobi Global, CoinMarketCap, and Coinone Exchange.
A public API launched in Q3 2023. Before that, Mintscan's API was private, serving major clients including CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap since the Cosmos Hub Mainnet launch.
English only, based on our research, a narrower footprint than several other explorers reviewed in this series.
Mintscan scores 57.5/100, reflecting genuine credit for long-standing, exchange-adopted infrastructure and distinctive IBC-tracking capability, weighed against a real, disclosed, longstanding structural overlap between the explorer and its operator's own validator business.
