P2E Crypto Game Review · Updated August 2026

Big Time: the strongest team pedigree in this series, still couldn't beat the P2E token curse.

We're continuing our P2E Crypto Games series with Big Time, a multiplayer ARPG founded in April 2020 by Ari Meilich, the founding CEO of Decentraland, and Thor Alexander, built by a team including veterans of Epic Games, Blizzard, EA, Call of Duty, and Fortnite. Real, disclosed genuine strengths: real-time, skill-based dungeon combat rather than an auto-battler, a patented "Vault Technology" that lets players own and trade blockchain assets without managing a crypto wallet directly, an active CertiK Skynet security-monitoring relationship, and a genuinely distinctive, disclosed token distribution, BIGTIME is earned only through gameplay with no investor presale allocation. What we don't think should be set aside: BIGTIME launched September 16, 2023, hit its all-time high near $0.73-0.99 in December 2023, then collapsed to the $0.005-0.01 range as of our research, a decline of roughly 98.7-99%, and Binance delisted the BIGTIME/USDC spot pair in July 2026. We weighted all of it below.

BIGTIME still down ~98.7-99% from its Dec 2023 peak

Our take, up front: Big Time is a free-to-play, multiplayer action role-playing game founded in April 2020 by Ari Meilich, the founding CEO of Decentraland who moved into an advisory role there before starting Big Time Studios, alongside co-founder Thor Alexander. Real, disclosed genuinely strong team credibility: the studio's named executives include CTO Matt Tonks, Head of Product Management Brian Chu, and CMO Michael Migliero, and the broader development team includes veterans of Epic Games, Blizzard, EA, Call of Duty, and Fortnite, among the strongest, most credible AAA gaming pedigrees we've found in this series. Real, disclosed genuinely substantial game content: real-time, skill-based combat (not an auto-battler), procedurally generated dungeons, a time-travel setting, and a stated "AAA experience" ambition. Real, disclosed genuinely distinctive technical innovation: patented Vault Technology lets players own and trade blockchain-based assets, cosmetic skins, weapons, and SPACE (virtual land) NFTs, without directly managing a crypto wallet, a real, meaningful reduction in onboarding friction relative to every other game we've reviewed in this series so far. Real, disclosed genuinely fair token design: BIGTIME is earned only through gameplay, with no investor presale allocation, a real, disclosed player-aligned distribution model that's a meaningful contrast to VC-heavy presale structures elsewhere in this category. Real, disclosed existing third-party security relationship: CertiK Skynet actively monitors the project. What we don't think should be set aside: BIGTIME launched on Ethereum on September 16, 2023, reached its all-time high, reported between roughly $0.73 and $0.99 depending on the source, on December 15, 2023, and has since collapsed to the $0.005-0.01 range as of our research, a decline of roughly 98.7-99%. Real, disclosed recent negative liquidity signal: Binance delisted the BIGTIME/USDC spot pair on July 1, 2026, moved forward from a planned July 3 date, while BIGTIME remains tradable against BTC and USDT. Real, disclosed player-count discrepancy across our sources: one detailed source states over 500,000 registered players by 2026, while another states 2.5 million, explicitly flagged as "directional" rather than independently verified. No confirmed direct hack of Big Time's own game or token contracts was found in our research. We weighted all of it below.

Real, disclosed genuinely strong, named, credible leadership: Ari Meilich (CEO, Decentraland co-founder), Thor Alexander, plus named CTO, product, and marketing executives, and a broader team with real, disclosed AAA gaming pedigree (Epic Games, Blizzard, EA veterans). Real, disclosed existing third-party security relationship: CertiK Skynet actively monitors the project. No confirmed direct hack of Big Time's own game or token contracts found in our research.

Why this scores above the midpoint: genuinely strong, real, named leadership credibility and an active, disclosed third-party security monitoring relationship, among the strongest security-adjacent profiles in this series so far.

Pros

  • Named, credible founders and executives with real prior Web3 and AAA-gaming success
  • Active CertiK Skynet monitoring relationship; no confirmed direct hack found

Cons

  • Specific audit scores or detailed report findings were not confirmed in our research

Real, disclosed genuinely distinctive, fair token distribution: BIGTIME is earned only through gameplay, with no investor presale allocation, a real, disclosed player-aligned design relative to typical VC-heavy P2E models. Real, disclosed emission design intended to release tokens gradually, with time-based unlock cliffs for team and investors. What tempers this severely: BIGTIME fell from its all-time high (roughly $0.73-0.99, depending on the source) to the $0.005-0.01 range as of our research, a decline of roughly 98.7-99%, and Binance delisted the BIGTIME/USDC spot pair in July 2026.

Why this scores below the midpoint: a genuinely fair, disclosed distribution design is a real positive, tempered by a real, disclosed, severe token collapse consistent with the rest of this category, plus a real, disclosed recent exchange delisting.

Pros

  • No investor presale allocation; BIGTIME is earned only through real gameplay

Cons

  • BIGTIME is down roughly 98.7-99% from its December 2023 all-time high
  • Binance delisted the BIGTIME/USDC pair in July 2026, a real, disclosed negative liquidity signal

Real, disclosed named, credible founders and executive team, with genuine prior Web3 success (Decentraland). Real, disclosed transparency: Ari Meilich has given public interviews discussing the studio's mission and token design directly, including the decision to avoid an investor presale allocation.

Why this scores well: genuinely strong, real, named leadership transparency with a credible track record, among the strongest in this series so far.

Pros

  • Named, credible founders with a real, disclosed prior Web3 track record
  • Direct, public interviews explaining key token and design decisions

Cons

  • No live DAO or community-governance mechanism found in our research

Real, disclosed genuinely substantial, high-quality game content: real-time, skill-based ARPG combat rather than an auto-battler, procedurally generated dungeons, and a time-travel setting, developed by veterans of major AAA franchises. Real, disclosed additional Open Loot distribution platform extending the studio's ecosystem beyond the core game.

Why this scores well: genuinely substantial, real, high-quality game content backed by credible AAA development pedigree, among the strongest gameplay profiles in this series so far.

Pros

  • Real-time, skill-based combat built by veterans of major AAA franchises
  • Open Loot extends the studio's ecosystem into a broader distribution platform

Cons

  • PvE-focused; players seeking PvP-driven content may find the scope narrower

Real, disclosed genuinely distinctive patented "Vault Technology," letting players own and trade blockchain assets without directly managing a crypto wallet, a real, meaningful reduction in onboarding friction relative to every other game reviewed in this series so far. Free-to-play, with no wallet connection required to start.

Why this scores highest in this category across the series so far: a genuinely distinctive, real technical innovation specifically designed to remove the wallet-management friction that hampers most other P2E games.

Pros

  • Vault Technology lets players own crypto assets without ever managing a wallet directly
  • No wallet connection required to start playing

Cons

  • Players who do want to trade assets externally still need to learn wallet basics eventually

Real, disclosed low-cost entry: free-to-play, no crypto required to begin. Real, disclosed Hourglass NFT system gating access to token-earning dungeons, with a real, disclosed price range from roughly $30-50 for Common rarity up to $2,000+ for Legendary variants, a real, disclosed meaningful cost specifically to participate in token-earning activities.

Why this scores at the midpoint: a genuinely low-cost entry to simply play, tempered by a real, disclosed meaningful cost to participate in the token-earning side of the economy specifically.

Pros

  • Free-to-play; no crypto or NFT purchase required to enjoy the core game

Cons

  • Hourglass NFTs required for token-earning can cost $30-$2,000+ depending on rarity

Real, disclosed distinctive Open Loot platform, a "Steam-like" Web3 game distribution and marketplace hub with its own OL token, extending the studio's ecosystem beyond a single game.

Pros

  • Open Loot is a genuinely distinctive platform-level extra most single-game P2E projects don't offer

Cons

  • Adds a second token (OL) and platform to evaluate alongside BIGTIME itself
Where to get it

Access only through the Epic Games Store or the official site, and don't confuse gameplay quality with token performance.

Given the real, disclosed gap between Big Time's credible team pedigree and BIGTIME's severe price decline, treat any Hourglass NFT purchase as a distinct, high-risk financial decision separate from simply enjoying the free game, and check current secondary-market prices directly before buying one for token-earning purposes.

0/ 100

The most credible team we've found in this series, still couldn't outrun the P2E token curse.

We want to be direct that Big Time has the strongest leadership pedigree of any game we've reviewed in this series so far. A founder who already built and scaled Decentraland. A team stacked with people who shipped Fortnite, Call of Duty, and other real, credible AAA titles. A token design that skipped the investor presale most competitors leaned on, so early insiders couldn't dump on players before the game even launched. Vault Technology is a genuinely thoughtful answer to the single biggest usability problem in this category: nobody should need to understand a seed phrase to enjoy a video game. None of that changed the outcome we've now seen in every game in this series. BIGTIME still fell nearly 99% from its own launch-window peak, and Binance still quietly removed one of its trading pairs in 2026. We think that's the most important finding to come out of this review, not that Big Time did anything wrong, but that even a genuinely well-built, fairly-distributed, AAA-caliber project couldn't escape the same gravity pulling every P2E token in this category downward. Play it for the game the team clearly knows how to build. Don't mistake that craftsmanship for a reason to expect the token to recover.

≈ 67 / 100; Best team, same token curse

The scorecard above is deliberately general. Whether Big Time is right for you depends heavily on which of these you already are.

Best fit

The ARPG fan who wants genuinely polished, skill-based dungeon combat without ever needing to manage a crypto wallet

This is exactly where Big Time's genuinely distinctive Vault Technology and AAA-caliber combat deliver real, demonstrated value.

Good fit

The player who enjoys the free game first, before ever buying an Hourglass NFT to participate in token earning

This lets you evaluate the genuinely strong gameplay on its own terms, separate from BIGTIME's real, disclosed volatility.

Workable fit

The prospective BIGTIME holder who treats an Hourglass NFT purchase as a distinct, high-risk financial decision

Given the real, disclosed price range from $30 to $2,000+ depending on rarity, this distinction genuinely matters here.

Poor fit

Anyone buying BIGTIME expecting the team's real credibility or the game's real quality to translate into price stability

A ~99% token decline occurred despite the strongest, most credible team pedigree we've found in this series so far.

The scorecard covers the headline judgment calls. These four tables cover the specifics we didn't want to bury in prose; how Vault Technology actually works, BIGTIME's full price chronology, token distribution compared against peers in this series, and the real cost of Hourglass NFTs by rarity.

How Vault Technology actually works

Typical P2E wallet flowBig Time's Vault Technology
Getting startedInstall a browser wallet, secure a seed phrase, connect to the gameCreate an account and start playing; no wallet setup required
Asset ownershipAssets live directly in the player's own wallet from the startAssets are held in a custodial Vault by default, with ownership still verifiable on-chain
Trading externallyRequires wallet management from day onePlayers can withdraw to a self-custody wallet later, once they choose to

This is a genuinely real trade-off worth naming precisely: Vault Technology lowers onboarding friction by defaulting to a custodial model, meaning new players trust Big Time Studios with asset custody until they actively choose to self-custody.

Recent snapshotBIGTIME trades in the $0.005-0.01 range, down roughly 98.7-99% from its all-time high

We found a real, disclosed range rather than a single precise ATH figure across our sources; both ends of that range still confirm a decline exceeding 98%.

Token distribution, compared against this series

Big Time (BIGTIME)World of Dypians (WOD)Pixels (PIXEL)
Investor presale allocationNone disclosed; earned only through gameplayPresale-funded (~$4-4.76M raised)Presale/funding-round structure disclosed
Max supply5 billionNot directly comparable (different token design)5 billion
Decline from ATH~98.7-99%~95-99%~99.5%

A no-presale, gameplay-earned distribution is a genuinely real, disclosed point of differentiation for Big Time, though it didn't prevent a decline consistent with every other token reviewed in this series.

Hourglass NFTs, by rarity

RarityApproximate secondary-market price
Common$30-$50
Uncommon / Rare / EpicProgressively higher, scaling with drop-rate improvements
LegendaryCan exceed $2,000 depending on specific attributes and market conditions

These prices apply specifically to token-earning access, not to playing the free game itself, a distinction we think is easy to lose in casual coverage of "how much Big Time costs."

We don't just want to hand you our number; we want to show you how it sits next to what other review desks and comparison sites have published. We're flagging directly that most sources we found emphasize the team's credibility and the no-presale distribution favorably without weighting the token's actual, disclosed ~99% decline as heavily as our methodology does.

The Block Note (us)N/A / 100
Industry averageN/A / 100

Our score lands closely aligned with the aggregated industry average; most sources we found credit the same strong team pedigree and fair token distribution we weighted favorably, while giving somewhat less weight to the severe price decline and the July 2026 Binance delisting.

That relationship does not influence the category weightings or scores above; those are set by our editorial methodology before any offer is placed. P2E crypto games carry real, structural risk regardless of which platform you use: token prices can collapse well below their launch valuation, reported volume and player-count figures are often self-reported or third-party-aggregated and can be difficult to verify independently, and NFT-based in-game assets can lose most of their value even if the underlying game continues operating normally.
