Lin Han is a Chinese entrepreneur, computer engineer, and blockchain pioneer best known as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Gate.io, one of the world’s longest-operating cryptocurrency exchanges. As an early believer in Bitcoin and decentralized technologies, Han helped build one of the crypto industry’s foundational trading platforms during the formative years of digital assets.
Han graduated with a degree in Software Engineering and later pursued advanced studies in mathematics and computer science, developing a strong technical background in distributed systems and cryptography. Before entering the blockchain industry, he worked in software development and internet technology, focusing on building scalable digital infrastructure and online platforms.
His interest in cryptocurrency began shortly after discovering Bitcoin in the early 2010s. Recognizing the potential of decentralized digital currencies and the lack of reliable trading infrastructure at the time, Han founded Bter.com in 2013, one of China’s earliest cryptocurrency exchanges. Following industry-wide regulatory and security challenges, the platform was later restructured and rebranded as Gate.io, expanding internationally and evolving into a full-service global crypto exchange.
Under Han’s leadership, Gate.io grew into a major ecosystem supporting spot trading, derivatives, startup token launches, staking, Web3 tools, and blockchain research. The platform became particularly known for its broad asset listings and support for emerging blockchain projects, often providing liquidity for new digital assets before larger exchanges entered the market.
Han has consistently emphasized security, transparency, and technological innovation in exchange operations. Gate.io was among the earlier exchanges to promote proof-of-reserves transparency and advanced wallet security measures following multiple industry crises. He has also supported research into decentralized finance, public blockchains, and next-generation crypto infrastructure aimed at improving scalability and accessibility.
Throughout his career, Han has maintained a relatively low public profile compared with many crypto executives, focusing more on infrastructure building and long-term platform development. His contributions to exchange technology and early crypto market infrastructure have made him one of the enduring figures in the global digital asset industry.
