Career

JP Richardson is an American entrepreneur and the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Exodus Movement, Inc., a publicly traded company best known for building Exodus Wallet, a popular self-custody cryptocurrency wallet and portfolio management app designed to make blockchain assets simple and secure for everyday users. He co-founded Exodus in 2015 with the mission of empowering individuals to control and safeguard their own digital assets without relying on centralized custodians.

Under Richardson’s leadership, Exodus has grown into a major global crypto platform serving millions of customers worldwide and offering tools to secure, exchange, and manage cryptocurrencies directly within the wallet interface. In 2021, he led Exodus to become one of the first U.S. companies to conduct an SEC-qualified crypto-only public stock offering, with its common stock tokenized on the blockchain; a pioneering step toward integrating public markets with decentralized systems.

Richardson is a vocal advocate for self-custody, decentralized finance, and Bitcoin leadership in the crypto ecosystem. He frequently comments on industry issues; for example, emphasizing that if a U.S. strategic crypto reserve were ever created, Bitcoin should be the primary asset included. He also highlights operational security practices for crypto firms, arguing that software and systems should be designed to protect users’ funds against sophisticated threats.

At Exodus, Richardson has overseen product expansions such as XO Pay, an in-app crypto purchase solution that simplifies buying Bitcoin and other assets while maintaining self-custody for users. His work reflects a broader commitment to making digital assets accessible while advocating for responsible growth and security in the cryptocurrency space.
